If the person seems to have suffered a brain the injury the doctors will usually begin treatment and rehabilitation right in the hospital shortly after the injury. The major focus in brain injury rehabilitation is to help the person regain or retain their most important abilities such as speech.

The first step in this rehabilitation usually consists of basic mouth exercises the patient will start in the hospital. Once the patient has left the hospital, the doctors will prescribe a program of rehabilitation based on the severity of the injuries.

Those with severe brain injuries made sent to a rehabilitation hospital or other facility where they can receive intensive therapy. Persons with less severe brain injuries may undergo rehabilitation at home or go to a clinic or other facility for therapy.

This therapy focuses on the individual’s particular problem. If the person has trouble talking they may work with a speech therapist. If the patient has trouble moving their limbs they may under physical therapy. Some individuals may also undergo occupational therapy.
