The art of yoga is a rather tough subject to discuss today. Globalization seems to have a devastating impact on this ancient concept. Many would choose to describe yoga as a simple philosophy to help people gain a better understanding. In fact, the western civilization might find the full contents of yoga to be a rather difficult subject to relate to. It is dangerous to assume a superficial understanding of a complicated subject and speaking about it from the viewpoint of an expert. Yoga is often viewed as a physical journey, instead of a spiritual one in the western part of the world. The rich philosophies behind yoga practice have been reduced into a simple form of art that focuses merely on achieving inner balance and peace.

In reality, yoga practice is a very sacred journey that has roots buried deep within the scriptures of an ancient Holy book. Yoga as a part of India’s diverse culture and philosophy is actually a spiritual experience that includes some complicated physical moves. It is unfortunate that the western world would approach yoga as a mere physical activity. The strange symbols related to the yoga practice have created some awareness among the westerners that there is more to yoga than the physical aspects, but they are often misunderstood. It became a popular sport in the west. The allure of yoga as an effective way to gain inner peace and balance has beckoned many to embrace this activity as well. It also does a good job attracting those who wish to obtain inner peace and balance in the midst of the hectic modern lifestyle.

This perception is often strengthened by the various claims made by the so called yoga masters. There is plenty of evidence to show that yoga has been wrongly implemented in the West. Different groups practicing yoga have its own cultural structure and these influences are responsible for those fatal errors detected in the practice of this ancient art. The fast paced lifestyle of the western civilization left no chance for them to indulge in quiet, introspective moments to really understand this concept. Most Americans do not possess the time to spend moments in meaningful sessions of quiet meditation, which is essential for success when embracing this practice. The greed for power and material wealth which is integral in the western culture has no place in the Hindu culture. Therefore, it is believed that the westerners will never reach the pinnacles of true wisdom dictated by the parameters of the Hindu religion. One needs to possess both time and patience to fully reap the rewards of a successful meditative session. Obviously, the people from the west have no endurance to fulfill such demands. Obsessed with the need to accumulate as much wealth as possible, therefore the thought of having to spend time in such sessions would be considered a mere waste of precious time.

Here, yoga as been practiced by those who desire to look good and stay in style. If you wish to know more, you can get hold of some of the available materials out there which is actively promoting this practice as a form of sports; yoga can be practiced anywhere. Even fake gurus have support from their adoring disciples. Obedient disciples of this distorted form of yoga have become agents of growth of this unhealthy philosophy.
