Practice Of Yoga
Yoga with its mystical enigma and allure proves to be a rather difficult subject to discuss in today’s modern world. This ancient art is based on age-old wisdom and philosophy, and yet globalization has diminished its real purpose and meaning. Most people choose to describe yoga as a simple concept rather than a complex philosophy in order to help people understand better. Most westerners might find the contents of yoga to be rather complicated and hard to relate to. It is disturbing to see a lot of people obtaining shallow understanding of this complex subject and yet remaining unhesitant to talk about it from an expert’s point of view. There is a tendency among the westerners to highlight only the physical aspects of yoga. Yoga has been reduced to a physical activity to achieve internal balance and serenity.
This unique practice is actually a religious journey, a representation of one of the Hindu schools of thought. In the faraway land of India, it is recognized as a spiritual practice that includes a series of complex and systematic physical moves. Most westerners would describe yoga as a physical practice. Most westerners are aware of the strange symbols associated with yoga practice, but often they are misunderstood. It is practiced as a popular sport. The allure of yoga as an effective way to gain inner peace and balance has beckoned many to embrace this activity as well. It also does a good job attracting those who wish to obtain inner peace and balance in the midst of the hectic modern lifestyle.
The so called experts in this industry have been quick to use these promises and people have been fascinated. Outside of India, that there is a high level of misunderstanding of its true nature, hence the monumental amount of mistakes that can be found in its implementation. The culture and structure of each different group influenced how yoga is being practiced. The fast paced lifestyle of the western civilization left no chance for them to indulge in quiet, introspective moments to really understand this concept. Most Americans do not possess the time to spend moments in meaningful sessions of quiet meditation, which is essential for success when embracing this practice. The west seems obsessed with the desire to accumulate massive amounts of wealth and gaining power, which is a priority according the principles of Hinduism. Unless these values are changed, it is impossible for westerners to achieve the true wisdom and enlightenment as defined by the parameters of the Hindu religion. Patience and time is crucial for meditation. This is what the westerners lack. The west seems cursed with the obsession to pursue the goal of building better lives in the form of lavish lifestyles and not in the philosophical way.
Yoga is practiced more as a form of recreational activity to fulfill a stylish lifestyle. There is a lot of information going out promoting yoga as a form of sports; in fact you can grab any of those and start practicing yoga anywhere you want to. During the early years of yoga practice in the US, a lot of yoga “gurus” have emerged, claiming to be experts of this discipline. Yet they gradually dwindled into what they actually are, merely fake gurus and yet they still have real support from their disciples. These followers have become the pillars supporting the growth of this false and wrong philosophy.
